Peter Forster: In Schleiermacher, Pietism met Romanticism and bred a new approach to religion as a sense and taste for the infinite.  Religious experience is more important than dogma, and Christianity is only the purest form of a range of religions.  Schleiermacher had a huge influence upon 19th-century theology.
