Jesus certainly existed. His existence as an historical figure is vouched for by pagan as well as Christian writers, ' says John Stott. Who was Jesus? Why was he crucified? Did he really rise from the dead? We need answers to these questions in order to understand the basics of Christianity. The author offers a clear and full explanation, showing what it means to be a Christian today.

Judges' and contributors' comments

Martyn Percy: I don’t know if people continue to read John Stott. … Just thinking about the students we see, I ask them the difference between Barth and Stott, they just glaze over.

David Winter: The thing about John Stott, like other people that we’ve talked about, is he was a sea change in evangelicals, no question about that, in broadening their approach to social issues, all that sort of thing. So he was influential, highly. Whether he still is influential is questionable, but I’m not sure if that’s really the issue, is it? It was an important book.
