St. Teresa of Avila

Judges' and contributors' comments

Jenny Monds: The Interior Castle is an extraordinary book by a 16th century Carmelite nun who had a very close relationship with God, developing from years of meditative prayer. Her book was written for the benefit of her fellow sisters, and describes the soul as being like a castle with many rooms. Prayer is the door to these rooms. It's a classic of spiritual writing which can still guide those seeking to enrich their inner life.
